Winter Activities in Murmansk: What Should You Book?

Winter activities
Published: ยท Updated:
You can meet huskies, go snowmobiling, visit a Sámi village or try ice floating during a winter stay in Murmansk. Choose the activity you most want to do, then check its location, programme and travel time. A short ride can still take most of a day when the venue is far from the city.
Snow-dependent activities need suitable conditions. Check the programme for your dates before building the rest of your itinerary around a ride.
Compare the activities
| Activity | What the day focuses on | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Husky Camp | Time with the dogs and the published winter group programme | Sledding arrangements, snow conditions and transfers |
| Sámi culture and northern animals | A hosted cultural visit and animal encounters | The selected venue, seasonal rides and meal arrangements |
| Kirovsk snowmobile day trip | A riding programme in the Khibiny area | Driver or passenger requirements, equipment and the return journey |
| Ice floating | A session in a protective suit at the selected venue | Murmansk or the White Sea, transport, suit fit and instruction language |
Huskies: check the programme you are booking
The Husky Camp near Murmansk has a published group programme for December to April. Read the current inclusions rather than treating admission, an animal encounter and a sled ride as interchangeable tickets.
If a sled ride is the reason for your visit, confirm the arrangement for your date. Private options can differ from the group programme. Snowmobiling and a separate reindeer visit are not included in the Husky Camp outing.

Sámi culture and northern animals
The Sámi Culture and Northern Animals programme combines a hosted visit with animal encounters. It runs year round, while snow-dependent rides have their own seasonal conditions.
Reindeer sledding starts from December when snow and venue conditions allow. Husky sledding is not included in this programme. A full lunch is optional, so check the meal arrangements before booking.
For a different day combining Sámi culture, husky sledding and snowmobiling, compare the combined programme from Murmansk. Its snowmobile riding time and full-day schedule are confirmed before booking. It is a separate route from the Khibiny snowmobile day trip.
Snowmobiles: allow for the journey as well as the ride
The Kirovsk snowmobile day trip takes you towards the Khibiny Mountains. Read the riding time separately from the time spent travelling from Murmansk and back.
Confirm whether you will ride as a driver or passenger, whether you share a machine and which participation requirements apply. Routes depend on snow and weather. Do not assume that cable-car tickets, husky sledding or other Kirovsk attractions are included in a snowmobile programme.

Ice floating: choose the venue first
Ice floating in Murmansk and White Sea ice floating near Kandalaksha are separate trips. The White Sea option requires a longer journey from Murmansk.
Check the transfer option, suit fit, participation requirements and the language used for the safety briefing. Our comparison of Kola Bay and the White Sea will help you choose the venue before you plan the day.
Fit the activity around your trip
Leave a separate full day for winter Teriberka. If you are also booking an evening Northern Lights outing, ask the manager whether the daytime excursion is expected to return in time. Allow time to eat, change and rest.
Read the trip preparation guide for clothing advice. Send your dates, group size, children’s ages if relevant and the activity you want to prioritise. The team can check the current programme, venue and English-speaking accompaniment for your group. The language used by venue staff and activity instructors should be confirmed separately.
