Day 1

Arrival and Northern Lights

Arrive in Murmansk and get settled. In the evening, we head out of the city to look for the Northern Lights, away from city lights. Your guide follows the cloud cover and aurora forecasts to choose where to go.

Duration: 3–5 hours.
Departure around 21:00; the time may shift with the forecast. We will confirm it in advance.
Transport from Murmansk and back, hot tea and snacks.
Photos of you with the Northern Lights, if they appear, shared afterwards via a cloud link.

While we wait, your guide shares stories about the aurora and helps with your camera. Between stops you can warm up in the vehicle.

If bad weather prevents us from going out, we move the outing to the next suitable evening during your stay. Two Northern Lights outings are included in your tour. The aurora is a natural phenomenon, and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Teriberka and the Arctic coast

Drive across the tundra to Teriberka.
Ship graveyard and old fishing village.
Sandy beach, beached fishing boat, giant seaside swing and whale skeleton.
Dragon Eggs Beach and the Battery Waterfall area.
Teriberka Nature Park admission.
Return transport to Murmansk.

There is a stop for lunch in Teriberka, payable separately. A boat trip is not included.

When there is enough snow, you may be able to reach the coastal sights in a sleigh towed by a snowmobile. This optional transfer costs about RUB 1,500–2,000 per person; we confirm availability and the price the day before.

Sámi village

Warm clothing provided for the village visit.
Stories by the fire in a chum (a traditional Sámi tent) and Sámi games.

Reindeer sleigh ride from December, snow permitting.

Three hours at the village, plus travel time.

Return to Murmansk after the visit. Lunch and husky sledding are not included.

During the day, take bus No. 106 or minibus No. 106a. At night, bus No. 106N runs between the airport and the city. You can also book a taxi through Yandex Go.

Where do we meet?

Meet at the Meridian Hotel in central Murmansk. We will send the meeting and return times before each excursion. All times are local.

What should I know about weather and snow?

Weather, road conditions and opening times can change the order of excursions. Travel times are approximate.

Snow activities run from December, when there is enough snow.

What if the Teriberka road closes?

If the road to Teriberka is officially closed, we will try to reschedule the excursion during your stay. If it has to be cancelled, we refund RUB 7,500 per person. Any alternative excursion is agreed with you separately.

What should I bring?

Bring warm layers, a hat, gloves and spare socks. The clothing provided at the Sámi village is for that visit only.

Tell us about food allergies or dietary requirements before booking so we can check whether alternatives are available.

When should I book my flight home?

Check the tour finish time with us before booking your flight or train home. Allow time for the journey to the airport and check-in.

3-day Murmansk tour: Northern Lights, Teriberka and Sámi culture

Season: September 2026 – March 2027

Spend three days in Murmansk, Russia, with two evenings set aside for the Northern Lights, a day on the Barents Sea coast and a visit to a Sámi village. Aurora Nights is a group tour for a short stay: you join the excursions in Murmansk and return to the city afterwards. An English-speaking assistant accompanies the programme.

Two evenings for the Northern Lights

Your first aurora outing is planned for the arrival evening, so check your travel times with us before buying tickets. The guide follows cloud cover and aurora forecasts to choose the route outside the city. Each outing lasts around three to five hours, with hot tea, snacks and the vehicle available for warming up between stops.

Two outings are included, not two guaranteed sightings. If the aurora appears, photographs of you with the lights are shared afterwards. Bad weather may require rescheduling within your stay. Our guide to choosing a Northern Lights tour in Murmansk explains what to compare before booking.

Teriberka and a Sámi village in one short trip

The Teriberka excursion takes you across the tundra to the old fishing village, ship graveyard and Barents Sea shore. Dragon Eggs Beach and the Battery Waterfall area are on the route, with nature park admission included. Access depends on weather and road conditions. Lunch, a boat trip and any optional snowmobile-towed sleigh transfer are extra.

At the Sámi village, feed the reindeer, meet the huskies and listen to stories by the fire in a chum, a traditional tent. Warm outerwear is provided for this visit, along with reindeer broth and herbal tea. A reindeer sleigh ride runs from December when snow conditions allow. A full lunch and husky sledding are not included.

Is the three-day tour right for you?
